Canberra

Canberra is well-positioned to host delegates from both regional areas and capital cities in Australia.

Canberra is less than an hour by air from Sydney, one hour from Melbourne and less than two hours from Brisbane. Canberra International Airport is less than 10 minutes from the CBD. Connect to the city via rental car, limousine, public transport, shuttle bus, taxi or with a rideshare operator.

Qantas, Virgin Australia, Jetstar, Link Airways, and FlyPelican offer direct flights to 12 domestic destinations, including regional hubs like Cairns, Newcastle, and Hobart, as well as all state capitals and major Australian cities. Canberra’s strong connectivity provides convenient access for delegates from both regional centers and capital cities.

International Flights
Fly direct to Nadi, Fiji, with Fiji Airways, with further connections to the United States, Canada, and beyond. Qatar Airways is set to re-launch daily flights to Canberra in December 2025, offering travellers with access to more than 170 destinations across the Qatar Airways global network.

Land Transport
Direct rail and coach services offer alternatives for delegates travelling from Sydney or the South Coast. Transport NSW provides three daily rail services from Sydney to Canberra, while Murrays Coaches operates frequent services to and from Sydney, Narooma, and Wollongong. The national freeways make Canberra an easy three-hour drive from Sydney for delegates who prefer to drive.

Buses
Transport Canberra’s bus service now offers a new zero-emission electric bus fleet that will continue to expand throughout 2025 as part of a frequent and reliable bus network connecting you to all major routes within the city. Bus Route 3 connects every 15 minutes to the airport. The Red Explorer Loop Bus offers a hop on hop off service, departing from the city and taking passengers to Canberra’s major attractions.

Light Rail
Supporting Canberra’s goal of a zero emissions future, the light rail connects you from North Canberra to the CBD with a fast, frequent, and comfortable journey along Northbourne Avenue. Construction of Stage 2 is underway, extending the line to Commonwealth Park, and eventually connecting to Woden and South Canberra.
Taxis and Rideshare
Canberra is well-serviced by taxis, and offers other rideshare providers like Shebah, DiDi and Uber.
Rental Cars
All major rental car companies have branches in Canberra and at Canberra Airport, allowing for easy pick-up and drop-off.

For electric vehicle (EV) drivers, the ACT is at the forefront in developing infrastructure for charging stations on major routes to and from the ACT, ensuring that Canberra is a leading EV friendly destination. Canberra has 180 charge stations, the ACT has the highest concentration of stations per kilometre in Australia and has seen significant expansion in the country and wine regions as well.
