National Business Event Strategy
The National Business Event (BE) Strategy was presented to Minister Martin Ferguson at the end of October. The Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism (RET) worked on the strategy with industry and it will form part of the National Tourism Strategy when other parts are complete next year. All sectors of the Tourism Industry have signed off on the BE strategy. It is now up to the Australian Government to respond.
In summary, there are 52 Recommendations in the Report. Some Recommendations involve additional funding and others require no funding but whole-of-Government co-ordination.
As far as the increased funding for TA's Business Events Unit is concerned, the Strategy calls for expenditure and activity with an emphasis in 4 key areas:
- Bid Support
- Convention Delegate Boosting Assistance
- Improved Research
- A global BE brand marketing campaign to position Australia as a BE destination.
