Membership and Conference Services Manager

Canberra Convention Bureau is a not for profit association, supported by Government and Industry partners that competes nationally and internationally to secure business events to Canberra and region. 

An exciting opportunity exists for an energetic Membership and Conference Services Manager to join a friendly and dynamic team responsible for promoting Canberra as a leading business events destination. 

You will enjoy identifying new member opportunities and communicate with existing members to ensure that Canberra's products and services are best represented by the Bureau. The role encompasses conference services as the Bureau's main point of contact, connecting the best of Canberra to all confirmed conferences. 

Key Responsibilities: 

    • Identify prospective members and develop and implement a membership attraction program 
    • Maintain ongoing member communication in a positive and proactive way to increase engagement with the Bureau 
    • Develop the relationship with Bureau members; ensuring member products are represented to the client in the best possible way 
    • Provide support for confirmed conference business in the aim of developing client relationships and to improve member communication 
    • Assist clients in the planning and execution of delegate boosting and promotional activities 
    • Organise and conduct city wide site visits for clients 
    • Plan and conduct induction training with new members and assist with developing member education programs 

The successful applicant will have the following qualifications and experience: 

    • Tertiary qualifications in administration, business, tourism and/or marketing 
    • Excellent service orientation and a flexible, client-centric approach 
    • Ability to prioritise and time manage activities and co-ordinate multiple projects to deadlines 
    • High level verbal and written communications skills and attention to detail 
    • Work well in a small, collaborative team environment 
    • Demonstrated time management skills 
    • A commitment to excellence, continuous improvement and professionalism 
    • Minimum two years events or business development experience in business events or hospitality industry 
    • Digital proficiency in a CRM platform and MS Office Suite 
    • Current driver's licence 

 The applicant must demonstrate knowledge of business events and Canberra's national capital attributes as a business events destination. Hours are 8:30-5:30 pm Monday to Friday with occasional after hours functions and hosting of clients. The Bureau has a strong culture of supporting learning and development programs for employees.
